Phytic Acid Mitigates Motor Asymmetry in Male Rat with Unilateral 6-Hydroxydopamine Striatal Lesion
Background and Objective: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a movement disorder with debilitating symptoms. Available treatments for PD mainly include its symptomatic relief with no prevention of its progression. Due to the iron-chelating and antioxidant effect of phytic acid (PA), this study was conducted to assess its protective effect in 6-hydroxydopamine-induced model of PD in rat. Materials and ...
متن کاملMenstrual cycle phase and mood effects on perceptual asymmetry.
Several studies have reported shifts in perceptual asymmetry during the menstrual cycle, but the potential confounding effect of mood changes has been largely ignored. In this study, 24 female subjects completed four visual laterality tasks and a mood questionnaire at three phases of the cycle. Results indicate no overall effect of cycle phase on any of the asymmetry or mood scores. However, re...
متن کاملSacroiliac joint asymmetry regarding inflammation and bone turnover: Assessment by FDG and NaF PET/CT
Objective(s): This study was undertaken to determine the role of computed tomography (CT)-based methodology to segment the SI joint and quantify the metabolic activity using positron emission tomography (PET). We measured tracer uptake in the right and left SI joints independently to look for differences between the two sides. Further, we correlated tracer uptake with ...
متن کاملPerceptual Asymmetry between Initial and Final Glides: Psycho Acoustics and Cochlear Encoding
Psycho-acoustic experiments show a perceptual asymmetry between tone and formant transitions in initial and final position: difference limens in end point frequency are significantly larger for transitions followed by a steady-state than preceded by one. Sensitivity of end point detection decreases as a result of auditory masking and/or a memory recency effect. The present paper describes how s...
متن کاملModeling temporal asymmetry in the auditory system.
Sound sources in the environment produce waves that are almost invariably asymmetric in time, and human listeners are highly sensitive to temporal asymmetry. The spectral analysis and neural transduction processes in the cochlea enhance temporal asymmetry, as do time-domain models of cochlear processes, but it appears that the resulting asymmetry is not sufficient to explain the observed percep...
متن کاملTarget/surround asymmetry in perceptual filling-in
Four experiments examined how differences in the properties of the target and surround affect the time required for perceptual filling-in. They examined differences in luminance, orientation, spatial frequency, and color. A larger target/surround difference delayed filling-in ('feature difference effect'). Interestingly, exchanging the target and surround properties significantly varied the tim...
